Creator growth and fan retention
Growth that adds followers and loses fans is not growth. These guides look at what giveaways actually do to an audience, and how to design one that attracts people who stay.
- Do giveaways actually grow followers? — A giveaway usually raises follower count in the short term, because the entry action is cheap and the incentive is immediate. Whether it grows an audience depends on whether the prize appeals to people who want what you make. We are not aware of reliable public data that puts a number on giveaway churn, so treat any specific retention percentage you read — including ours — with suspicion and measure your own.
- Why people unfollow after giveaways — When following is the price of entry, the follow is a payment rather than a decision about your work — so unfollowing after the draw is the mechanic working as designed, not bad faith. Churn is worst where the prize was generic, the entry required following unrelated accounts, the draw looked arbitrary, or nothing after the announcement gave the new follower a reason to stay.
