Running creator giveaways
Most giveaway problems are design problems, not luck problems. These guides cover how to set up a giveaway that platforms allow, that entrants trust, and that you can actually finish.
- Instagram giveaway rules: required, prohibited, and recommended — Meta's promotions guidelines make you solely responsible for the lawful operation of your promotion, require official rules and eligibility terms, require a release of Meta by each entrant, and require a statement that the promotion is not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by Meta. They also prohibit using personal timelines and friend connections to administer entries. Everything beyond that — one-step entry, prize choice, announcement habits — is practice, not policy.
- YouTube giveaway rules: required, prohibited, and recommended — YouTube's contest policies make the channel the sponsor and responsible for lawful operation, require official rules that comply with applicable law, and prohibit contests that are lotteries or that require entrants to pay — including requiring a paid channel membership or a Super Chat. Entry conditions also cannot ask viewers to breach the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines.
